The essence of the Seido philosophy can be summarized in a single phrase: "Persistance through resistance." The Japanese expression of this core value of tenacity is Nana korobi ya oki. This expression says that no matter how many times we slip or fall on our journey we promise to get up and continue, knowing that we may fall again.
   Ultimately, the Seido philosophy advocates self-responsibility through self-examination and, with that, the determination to act on behalf of our insights with compassion and vigor regardless of the obstacles along the way.
    The Seido system provides a challenging physical workout at all levels of instruction. Classes use solo and paired exercises to promote confidence in oneself and a trusting relationship with others. Our meditation program seeks to develop "presence of mind", and the improved functionality in daily life that comes with that attribute. Practical, usable personal protection skills are also taught. Indulgence of martial arts fantasies is strongly discouraged.
